French football club Paris Saint-Germain’s sponsorship deal with the Rwandan government does not align with the ethical standards of the club, according to midfielder Youssouf Mulumbu.

Mulumbu expressed concerns about PSG’s partnership with Visit Rwanda, a tourism campaign funded by Rwanda’s government led by President Paul Kagame.

The midfielder, who previously played for PSG’s rival team Paris FC, criticized the deal as being in conflict with the values of fair play and sportsmanship that football should uphold.

“It’s important for clubs to consider the ethical implications of their sponsorship agreements, and I believe the Visit Rwanda deal does not meet the standards of integrity that PSG should strive for,” Mulumbu said in a recent interview.

PSG’s partnership with Visit Rwanda includes the promotion of the country’s tourism industry through various advertising and branding initiatives.

However, Mulumbu argued that the deal raises questions about the club’s alignment with a government that has been criticized for its human rights record and political repression.

He emphasized the importance of football clubs using their platforms to promote positive social values and contribute to meaningful causes, rather than aligning with controversial political entities.

PSG has yet to respond to Mulumbu’s comments regarding the Visit Rwanda sponsorship deal.

As the debate continues, it remains to be seen whether the club will reconsider its partnership with the Rwandan government in light of the ethical concerns raised by Mulumbu and others.
